Bought this unplayed 2013 Am. Std. on Reverb for $960 last year. It was awful, unplayably out of alignment, and sounded like a banjo. But the guitar weighed only 7 pounds and I could feel some resonance smothering under the thick poly that coated every inch of it. I broke it down and scraped/sanded the neck clean, then sanded off half the body poly, chiseled the pocket for a perfect alignment and moved the nut 2/16 inch to get the strings back in the center. Screwed it back together, straightened the neck (I hate relief) set the intonation, the pickup height relationship... and now if you hit a chord it will ring for as long as you hold it. Ever note on the neck is pure as a bell. Best sounding Tele I’ve ever owned, incl CSs. Looking at it in component mode, you’d think this mass-produced kit guitar would sound lousy when screwed together. How can something as simple as this, as cheap as this, sound so f-in incredible? The magic of Leo’s design.
