to when we first got Brother and Bear 😭😓 6 years ago these little guys were shown to me by a neighbour, he sat them on the edge of the fence and exclaimed "pick which one you want and the other one I'm gonna knock over the head!" The only way to describe this man is as a.. "drunken meth santa", he also said this with a laugh, a deep gut curdling laugh.. and I had been told many lovely stories about him killing cats in the street so I knew he wasn't joking.
We took them both in a heartbeat, there was no way we could let either get hurt. We'd been told after that, that their mother had jumped over a fence with her chain still attached and accidentally hung herself.. no wonder when I picked up a chain the first time they screeched unlike anything I'd heard before.. they cowered at everything.. their bellies were empty so much so that they had bloated to extreme.. and yet their nails were painted.. that never sat well with me.
It took years to fully gain their trust because of the neglect, and I'm assuming abuse, that humans had shown them.
Sadly we lost brother last year, they had gotten so good.. and become so well behaved we became complacent.. He ran out on the road and got hit by a motorbike after sneaking past us threw our side gate. It's the hardest thing my partner and I have ever had to go through together. Bear still misses the company from time to time but we do everything we can to make him happy 100% of the time! Poor little guy has suffered enough. -
