When Eloise was born at just 29 weeks gestation it meant that she spent the first two months of her life in hospital in NICU and SCBU. Those weeks where we had to leave her behind at the hospital each night were very challenging and we longed for the day that we could bring her home.
Amy from @ is a local Mum here in Adelaide who has provided me with a huge amount of support this year both personally and with the amazing supportive community she has created through @ after having gone through the premmie journey herself.
Amy is organising a not-for-profit event - “Fun Run for Prems” in November which George will be participating in!!! The money raised from this Fun Run will go directly towards funding webcams for the Flinders Medical Centre Neonatal Unit.
This kind of technology would have been absolutely amazing for us when Eloise was in NICU and SCBU as there were so many times when I was convinced that something was wrong in the middle of the night and despite my head telling me that they would have called if this was the case my heart would ache until I would get up out of bed, get dressed and drive into the hospital at 2am or some other crazy hour of the night to check on her!
It would have been so comforting to have been able to log in from home and see that our precious girl was safe and sound tucked up in her little isolette.
Even though this period was incredibly difficult, I often considered us lucky because we live so close to the hospital. It only took us about 10 minutes (closer to 5 if we had a good run with the lights and I was driving)! This made visiting very easy for us and I could come and go as much as I wanted especially since Eloise is our first baby and I really had very few other commitments. However, I did meet families where this wasn’t the case. Some had other children at home and some lived much further away than us making the logistics of visiting far more difficult.
This is where having webcam technology available in the Neonatal Unit would make such a difference to families.
Please help get behind this amazing cause. Any donation is greatly appreciated 💕
