I went to Backbar last night and got stood up on a date (again - surprise). I’d like to say this was a profound experience as I found myself at the bar alone in a sea of couples, but it wasn’t - it ended up being another night at the bar where I decided I’m going to enjoy some well-crafted drinks.
I didn’t find myself as talkative to either the bartender or the people around me - granted, the people around me were immersed in their own date-topic conversations. This was a great people-watching moment overhearing and observing these dates. At one point in my evening, a person from Philadelphia say next to me - he ordered the same drink as me, this drink: Queen Sheba (dewar’s 12 scotch, sweet vermouth, strega, cacao, berbere spice, saffron bitters). This led to us talking about our dining experiences at Zahav, and how he travels often for work and would like to work abroad remotely at some point somehow. I agreed, and we chatted about tentative travels for 2019. And then he left.
I couldn’t help but chuckle at all of the Star Wars decal I found as I looked around the space - it felt like a treasure hunt. Anyway, that’s all I got on this experience. The drinks were delicious, as always.
