Yesterday’s hike was one for the books! The Moanalua Valley Trail that leads to the famous Haiku-stairs was nothing but epic. .
A total of 17km where you hike over 10km on a narrow ridge with loads of sketchy crossings and on either side the ridge drops into a free fall. It has rained for the past few days so the path was extremely muddy and slippery. Add strong side-winds to that add at times I was so afraid I became a bit religious haha. .
The Haiku stairs (more famous by its nickname ‘Stairway to Heaven’ has been closed off for years, obviously people still hike them by dodging the patrolling police and guards, however if you get caught it’s automatically a $1000 fine. .
The thought of the way down the same slippery path even made me think ‘what’s $1000 compared to my life’, but we hiked down the legal route none the less (mostly because our car was on that side of the mountain & reaching it by public transport would’ve taken 2 hours hehe)
