What a head-turner. It’s a Crêpe myrtle, sometimes written (I reckon erroneously, surely it’s named after the crinkly paper?), Crape myrtle. Also known as Lagerstroemia indica, this one looks like the ‘Rosea’ cultivar. London’s small but conspicuous population is really going for it this year, look out for red, pink, mauve and cream coloured flowers on small trees in several boroughs. Barnet, Hackney, Islington and Lambeth all have a few brightening up sunny spots.
