Spending 5 days a week in the city centre, I’m spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out but even an avid foodie like me struggles to keep up with all the new openings. I don’t often get chance to venture out to the southern suburbs of Manchester, but last week I jumped on the tram to Chorlton to experience some authentic Turkish cooking at @.
We called into the cosy neighbourhood restaurant on a Monday evening, so it made sense to choose the unbeatable two course deal at £11.95, valid Sun - Thu until 7.30pm. Turkish food is one of my favourites and I'd be quite happy to be left alone with a basket of flatbread and a bowl of baba ganoush, but Saray has much more to offer! When I visit somewhere for the first time, I like to sample as much of the menu as I can, so I knew that the mini meze starter would be the perfect choice. Don’t be fooled into thinking that this is a dainty appetiser, it’s a colourful platter of six different cold salads and dips, plus stuffed vine leaves. I was in my element when it arrived, dipping away to my heart's content. I also negotiated a bite of my other half's feta cheese triangles too, which were deliciously light and crispy 👌🏼 For the main course we shared "Iskender" - chargrilled lamb & chicken in a tangy tomato sauce and the Saray lamb kofte, both served with rice and salad. Classic Turkish comfort food.
We thought that we couldn’t possibly eat another thing but managed to finish off with a strong coffee and a nibble of fruity Turkish delight!
Saray café is a warm and welcoming eatery serving traditional Turkish food, simple but oh so very tasty! If I lived closer, I’d be there every week.
