Peter Pritchard, the father of turtle conservation, and the world’s largest and most unique turtle, the mighty Leatherback sea turtle. These incredible ocean mariners can do it all! They grow to upwards of 2000lbs and 7ft long, can travel up to 10,000 miles a year, dive 3,000ft below the surface of the ocean and hold their breath for up to 5 hours! And to think they do this all on a diet of only jellyfish. They are AMAZING! Sadly though, they are also disappearing. Eastern Pacific Leatherback Sea Turtles are possibly the most critically endangered population of sea turtles in the world. Plastic pollution and the poaching of their eggs has decimated their population, and it is believed as few as 200 adults may remain in the eastern Pacific.
Please support our efforts in conjunction with Paso Pacifico in the construction of two new hatcheries in Nicaragua to protect nests from poachers and predators. Help us reach our goal of $8,000 by October 1st! 🐢LINK IN BIO🐢
