✙ MAKER MONDAY ✙
Another Monday to share a little more about why I do what I do and why it means so much to me. Today I want to take the opportunity to talk a little bit about quality and handmade, over quantity and cheap.
With the holidays coming up and it being a consumer driven time of year, and being in a business where I make and sell things people buy this is a time of year where I have to walk a fine line. I love that people purchase from me for gifts for their loved ones and for themselves, this is so meaningful to me because every purchase that is made goes to support me and my little family living a slow and simple life. I know you could probably buy a piece of jewelry that was made in another country, in a factory for much cheaper than what I can sell you my work for, but when you take your hard earned money and you reach out to buy something of quality, meaning and substance from me it is incredibly influential to my life and my family. For that I am grateful. I make every piece of jewelry with my own hands, using a few simple tools, a whole lot of my time, energy, love and care. I love to buy special gifts, or better yet make special gifts for the people I love. I love to spend my hard earned money on goods that are quality. To me it is a rich and satisfying life to have fewer things of higher quality that will last for years to come, than a multitude of things that I don’t wear/use. I like the simple life I guess, it makes me feel grounded and thankful. I hope that this time of year and all year round we can all move toward a more sustainable future where we are content with less and remember what’s important, the people and animals we love. I hope we all make any steps we can toward choosing better quality goods that last and can be repaired or reused over fast and cheap. More than that I hope when we can we will buy from people who make these things with their own two hands.
