Aw look. Here is one of our Open Studios artists, Kurt Becker, holding one of his sculptures. Now look again, zoom in if you can. Can you see how much work he has on display? :-0 It seems like Kurt has been VERY busy - we can't wait to see what's on display at his studio during our Hinterland Trail weekend on 24th -26th August!
Kurt first studied applied art at college ,then continued at the academy of fine art ,Kassel/Germany , specialising at painting with Prof. Bode. After his degree he worked in advertising as art director and later in his own company. After emigrating to Australia he came back to fine art ,started sculpting, harking back to years of experience modeling with plasticine as a child , and encouraged by his wife Heidi, who works as a potter and sculptor . He is sharing the studio with her and they work on many sculptures together .
Kurt's sculptures are figurative , whimsical ,and humorous , inspired by myths and poetry , dreams and stories .Kurt loves working with the human body , each piece individually and lovingly modeled from clay ,with emphasis on playfulness, expression and detail. He sold his work at exhibitions and in Galleries at Sydney ,Adelaide , Gold Coast Sunshine Coast , Cairns and others.
His latest adventure is recording his dreams and creating illustrated story books .
