❝ Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
— John Lubbock
This was one of my favorite getaways. I worked seven straight days, with some 14-hour workdays to meet a deadline. My boss at the time had to force me to take a break (probably cause of some state law but more likely, cause she anticipated a burnout).
I didn’t do much but spend the night in this amazing hotel filled with a Victorian style room, hardwood floors, a canopy bed, French style windows that overlooked the ocean, and the smell and sounds of ocean waves and a crackling fireplace. Ahhhh.
Rest is important to our mental and physical wellbeing. Without it, we burnout mentally or we get sick — both of which force us to take a break anyway. Schedule rest like you schedule work. Tune out. Forget responsibilities. Be present. Just be. Your body, soul, and spirit will love you for it.
