I’ve always thought the best way to see #Paris is by bus but they can be a bit, um, unpredictable. Got on one the other day and after a couple of minutes the driver said: “mumble mumble a cause de manif mumble.” This can’t have anything to do with my very straightforward journey I thought. Jeez have I learned nothing? Bus abruptly speeds up and abandons all the stops. “What route is he going?” I ask my seat-mate, an elegant Parisienne of a certain age. “Who knows?” she replied, totally calm. “But.. but I need to get off.”
I go and talk to the driver. “Mumble mumble... pas possible.” “This is outrageous!” I say. “YOU,” replies the driver, “should be grateful you have a bus at all. Don’t you know there are strikes today?”
I sit back down. “Where are you going?” I ask my new bus friend.
She names an inconvenient terminus I really don’t want to end up at. “For sure he is going to stop there.”
“But.. he hasn’t said anything about that,” I say, worried my French really has gone to the dogs. “I know, “ she smiles. “But they like to get their coffee there.”
And there, dear reader, is exactly where I ended up. Ps photo note: colour tint from @acolorstory
