Rose Valley Falls in Los Padres National Forest near Ojai, CA is one of my favorite places in the world. It may not be as lush as some waterfalls in the Pacific Northwest (where i now live), but it has its own beauty, the particular beauty of a dry SoCal forest.
It is the place of so many formative memories. ...Hiking with Tim True for various youth group outings. Taking my wife there for our one-year dating anniversary. Going by myself to camp all alone (i think i stayed most of the night). ....And going again a few years ago with my siblings to re-center a bit.
The beauty of looking up at any waterfall is only surpassed by the exhilaration of standing at the top, and my first experience of both was at Rose Valley. With two huge falls, one above the other, the natural inclination is to climb the first one, then climb the second. There's freedom and life in being away from everything, in nature, on a precipice, without obligation, taking in the expanse of nature.
Whenever my son, Enoch, asks what super power i would want i always say 'flight'. and that fantasy originated here. The dream of taking it all in from the top of the falls, then diving off and soaring freely through the canyons and trees...amazing.
I knew I wanted this on the backside of my arm, and Ruby [ @ ] brought it to life in an amazing way. ...Thank you.
