#Repost @smurray_32 ・・・ Are you still going to drink this weekend?? ➖ Although I am a firm advocate of flexible dieting and consuming “anything in moderation”, I do still feel very strongly about weekend alcohol intake as I know first-hand that this is likely the cause of so many diet failures out there ➖ Now, while I am not going to go into yet another entire post about how easy it is to “cancel out” your hard-earned weekly deficit on your weekend (check out YouTube 👆🏼 for a full cheat day science video going over leptin, metabolism etc), the goal of this post was to simply make you more AWARE that, calories don’t just come from food and that, the wine, beer, vodka that you are consuming tonight, likely has far more than you perceive it to have ➖ Remember, alcohol contains 7kcal/g (Traversy 2015) thus, while if consumed in moderation, can “fit” into your lifestyle with relative ease, IF ABUSED, has the ability to shift you into EXTREME surpluses of calories and thus cause you to store any carbohydrates and fats that you consume directly as fat tissue due to alcohol taking priority no.1 when it comes to metabolism (Siler et al 1999). Studies even show that is one of the main contributors to weight gain by promoting excess energy consumption with a lack of satiety (DiMeglio & Mattes 2000 Pan & Hu 2011, Tieken 2008). ➖ Furthermore, alcohol is associated with increases in ghrelin, the main “hunger hormone” (Röjdmark et al 2001) thus, not only could you be consuming 1600kcal worth of liquid calories tonight, but then “binge” on further “FOOD calories” and thus shift you into an even LARGER calorie surplus. ➖ Think about it, for some petite females, 1750kcal worth of vodka alone (no food) could be their entire DAILY requirement. We did something yesterday! We bought a van!😅😬🙄🙃 . Those emojis represent how I have felt about this process! @brettdavidson3 got the crazy idea about a year ago that we should buy a van and convert it into a camper. One with a bed and a sink and stove etc so we can travel in it (side not we are not going van life full time and living in it- although we may do some longer trips at some point but nothing is currently in the works). . When he first said this I thought it was kinda a joke and I didn’t want a creepy van😂😂 . But over time as I looked at conversions with him and thought about all the awesome travels we could have I got convinced! So here we are! . Partnership is about supporting each other’s goals and dreams even if they weren’t originally your own goals and dreams. And honestly, like why not? Why not travel around in a van? It’s gonna be freaking awesome and I cannot wait till the inside is transformed!! . I will post pics of the inside now on my story (it’s got a long way to go). I will also post some of what we would eventually like to work towards. And it is a 2016 Dodge Promaster for anyone wondering.✌🏼 . Make dieting on low calories more bearable. . Lol, get it? Because the Bears are about to kick off. . Speaking of, I’ll make this quick because the game is about to start. . 1️⃣ One of the most common mistakes leaving people feeling hungry is actually thirst. . Half of your body weight in ounces is the general recommendation, and should be enough to help with feelings of fullness throughout each day. . 2️⃣ The only liquid calories that are ever worth it are from coffee and Moscow Mules. . Coffee is fine because it’s 1-5 calories and fills you up, and Moscow Mules/any sort of alcohol should be kept in moderation. . 3️⃣ There’s nothing inherently bad about protein sources higher in fat, they’re just a bit higher in calories. . My favorite low-fat protein sources are chicken, extra-lean beef or turkey, whey protein, and egg whites. . Fish works too, I just think fish tastes like butthole—so if you’re freaky af then throw some fish in your diet. . 4️⃣ My favorite high-volume fruits are watermelon (140 cal per pound) and pineapple (220 cal per pound). . Some good high-volume veggies include broccoli, carrots, spinach, lettuce, squash, zucchini, and peppers. . If you’re a psychopath then mushrooms are also a viable option. . 5️⃣ Eating out is tough when calories are low because the average meal from a restaurant is 1,200 calories. . If your intake is 2,000 or lower, you’re just making it harder on yourself to stay within your calories. . If you do decide to go out to eat out,’and sure to have a strategy in place. . 6️⃣ Diet sodas, when paired with a meal, can help a lot in feelings of fullness. . Sugar-free/Cal free coffee creamers can help keep calories low if you don’t like your coffee black. . Your calories shouldn’t be too low for an extended period of time unless you have a lot of weight to lose. . If your calories are so low it’s unbearable, consider taking a diet break or going through a bulking phase. . Alright gtg, Bears game just started—love you❤️

🌱Almond crusted tofu nuggets, oodles of zoodles, avocado, hemp seeds and homemade mayo in romaine lettuce wraps🌱 (Ok...so I’m not the best at the designer drizzle😫, but these were extremely tasty😋.) Have a happy Monday friends 💚 . 🌱Recipe Almond crusted tofu nuggets: Cut 1-14oz block extra-firm tofu into triangles. Whisk marinade: 2 tbsp low-sodium tamari (or soy sauce), 1 tbsp sriracha, 1 tbsp garlic chili sauce, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tbsp Dijon mustard, 2 tsp arrowroot or cornstarch, 1/3 cup water. Use to marinate tofu triangles at least 1 hour (or up to 6 hours in refrigerator). Mix: 1 cup almond meal, 2 tbsp nutritional yeast, 1/2 tsp smoked paprika, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 garlic powder. Use to coat tofu triangles and bake on parchment-lined baking sheet at 375F until golden (about 25 minutes). 🌱Classic recipe vegan mayo: Blend 1/4 bean LIQUID (from 1 can garbanzos) with 1 tsp white vinegar, 1/2 tsp sea salt, 1/2 tsp sugar, 1 tsp lemon juice, 2 tsp dry mustard until combined. As a nutritionist a lot my clients ask me, "Can you enjoy dessert whilst losing weight or maintaining your fitness??" My answer is yes you can, Here’s how: 1⃣ Accept it! If you love sweets, make it a part of your meal plan. Restriction or complete avoidance of foods can lead to more cravings, fixating on forbidden foods. Resulting in abandoned goals. Within any diet, 10- 20% of your calories can be from a little treat. 2⃣ Eat more filling foods. Have a meal high in protein, fibre & good fats before your dessert. Have healthy snacks to avoid long periods without eating. This will help avoid hunger pangs & binge eating. 3⃣Be mindful: Eat your sweets slowly taking small bites, enjoy the taste. Have a satisfying & mindful meal experience. 4⃣Have a plan. If you happen to be eat out, see the dessert menu first. This way, you can budget your calories. Knowing where you're really headed -- towards that sizzling brownie, perhaps? -- will make it easier to skip the creamy or deep-fried foods. 5⃣Make it yourself. This is the most powerful & effective way to enjoy what you love. You have full control over the ingredients & amounts that you put in your sweets. You can even use this opportunity to replace certain ingredients reducing calories or pumpimg up nutrition. Eg. Using bananas, dates in place of sugar. 6⃣Eat what you love, in small portions. No food is off-limits as long as you keep your portions reasonable. Have a glass of water after you have eaten your portion, this helps clean the palate & reduces sugar cravings. 7⃣Increase your activity. Enjoy your desert -- but top it off with a small walk afterwards. Make sure to be active: walk more, take the stairs, play with your kids, play a sport. Pick any activity that you like. 8⃣Don't have all or nothing approach. Just because you had a piece of cake does not mean your entire day’s diet is ruined & then shove on more cake. 1 piece is not going to make or break your diet so let it be what it is. In this followup post, I am giving you 4 steps to achieve sustainable weight loss!😄 The first step is to find out WHY you want to lose weight. 🤔 Imagine a pyramid, now think of your WHY being the base, the wider the base the taller and stronger the pyramid can be! Without a strong WHY your pyramid will be frail and have very little to build upon. The honeymoon stage of weight loss will wear off and your WHY will be your backbone. Now that we have a wide base its time to build this pyramid strong and tall!💪🏗 The second step is building a support system; you've probably heard of the saying, strength comes in numbers. This is especially true when it comes to weight loss. Build your team wisely, look for individuals who take your weight loss seriously.😤 Build a team that is educated, positive, and consistent. I encourage you to have one member on your team that is educated in the world of weight loss like a Registered Dietitian or an Exercise Physiologist.✔ The larger and more committed your team the stronger your pyramid becomes; your team is the cement keeping the pyramid together! Now we get to build the pyramid tall! The third step is learning your energy demands. Your body needs a certain amount of energy to sustain the weight you are at. This is called your metabolic rate. You get energy through food called calories. If you have too many calories coming in and not enough going out you gain weight😖! There are plenty of prediction calculators to help you figure out how many calories you should be eating to lose weight. I would suggest using My Fitness Pal, they have a prediction calculator built into their app and its FREE.🤑 The prediction calculator gives your calorie requirements at rest this is known as your basal metabolic rate. My Fitness Pal uses the Mifflin-St. Jeor basal metabolic rate equation has been well tested and is pretty accurate in most cases. Understanding your relationship with calorie intake and weight loss is vital for weight loss.

Perspective. . There’s so much we take for granted in this life. . When it comes to fitness, a lot of times, it can feel like a burden. . The truth is, it’s not the easiest thing to do, it takes time, it takes commitment, it takes preparation. . However, at the end of the day, we just need to be thankful we have any say over any of this. . Think about this: we literally have the ability to choose what we want to look like. . We can choose to lose weight, we can choose to build muscle. Is it easy? No. But, we have all been granted an equal opportunity at chasing these goals. . How awesome is that? I think it’s one of the coolest things about this journey. . If you’re stuck in a rut, or you feel like you just can’t make progress..you need a new perspective. . All of these things: working out, eating healthy, going to the gym, improving mental health, losing weight, gaining muscle, cardio, improving strength... . They’re all privileges!! . There’s literally people out there that aren’t able bodied, or minded enough to chase these goals, or do these things. . But you, you have the opportunity to do all of these things. So please don’t take them for granted, please don’t look at them as a chore..please be thankful of these simple things. . You can also eat any food you want and gain body fat (I doubt you wanna do that). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The reason both of the above statements are true is because of a law called energy balance: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ (Calories consumed) - (Calories burned) = Weight gain/loss. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And while it makes a lot of sense to eat mostly healthy foods like berries, spinach, chicken breast, melon, asparagus and bananas… you can eat some Oreos and a slice of pizza every now and then so long as you are not eating too many calories and have an overall balanced diet. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Above are 12 of my favorite foods when dieting for fat loss. They're filling, tasty, and nutrient dense. 1 week postpartum vs almost 6 weeks! . I’ve officially lowered my carbs to around 115g.
