52.5kg at 52 years old in the 52kg class…..and at 51.1kg bw that is over a body weight bench 😍💪 More in that bench tank????
Not monumental for anyone else but for me there are a lot of 52’s in there. I have wanted to finish off my weight loss journey for a while and finally managed to convince my Powerlifting coach that it was a good idea…not an easy feat if you know Marc.
This competition the NM Summer Classic was my most important competition to me to date, I needed to make a qualifying total in order to lift at the British Equipped in Jan 2019 as a 52kg lifter but we knew that we didn’t have the time or the kit to get me stronger quickly to compete equipped. So classic it was to be and most importantly to make the QT.
I asked Jo to take over all my nutritional needs, I needed a cut, a fast one, I needed potentially to water load (something I had never done before due to the time scale involved) but more importantly, I needed to be able to function on competition day.
You know straight away when you are in safe hands, the process is explained, the way forward is clear and most importantly you believe you can do it too; Fernando made my mind up, for those who know will know. So an epic two weeks began, I expected to be moody, hangry and a bit of a tantrum-throwing diva….errrr nope, none of it. The daily planning was there, how I could feel, my macros, what I wanted to eat and nothing was left for me to second guess. I felt motivated, inspired and buzzing, wasn’t I supposed to feel horrendous, starved and be belting out the cardio (no I didn’t do any of that except my normal walking). So buzzing, stress-free, positive and supported, you absolutely bet, even my family didn’t notice I had cut weight.
Competition day arrives and bring me down off the ceiling please, not only had I made weight with wiggle room, I made my qualifying total and benched (my secret fav lift, after all, squats suck) over my body weight all on a massive cut.
Happy Granny too, a massive thank you to another powerlifter who believed we could. Thank you @jolouise_beck
