🚨Annihalation🚨comes from the Director of Ex Machina and stars Natalie Portman as a biologist who's husband has been missing for months until she is approached by a secret organization that is investigating an altered world called The Shimmer. Lena (Portman) and a group of 4 other women enter The Shimmer to investigate the dissapperance of countless other teams and to gather research.
Everywhere around the world, except the US and China, put this film direct to Netflix. And thank god they did not because this was meant to be seen in a large theater. This film is visually stunning. The atmosphere that was crafted by the cinematographer is amazing. And the Director, who also wrote the script, is so creative in so many ways. There are so many elements of the film that are just striking and so inventive. I have not been this awed by a film since Blade Runner 2049.
Natalie Portman gave a terrific performance with the material given. The theme of the movie is that: sometimes in life, one thing must be torn down to create another, better. And that's what The Shimmer symbolizes and it's pretty fun to break down. It is pretty high-concept but it is still very entertaining to just take in.
Also the Director crafted one of the most terrifying scenes I have seen in a while and this was not even a horror movie. It was so perfectly shot along with the music that went with it. It was so creepy!! However, near the end, the film tries to go too art house and it just came off as beating someone over the head with the theme of your movie. However, it was done in such a creative way.
If you want a great theatre experience and want to watch some crazy shit happen in front of you. This is the movie for you. But honestly, I loved it and I beg others to see it too!
