A lovely day today with the team doing a brilliant job whilst I caught up on paperwork and Christmas event planning.
Here’s just some of the snowflakes (and snowmen) our customers added to the front window today.
Come and add yours too; between now and the New Year 😁... ^Stefan #thefreshwatercoffeehouse
Wight Salt was called late on Friday afternoon by Dan asking for a number of Mini's and lime spray for Monday morning. A classy and earthy emporium is Yarmouth Deli, with a commitment to great products, a lovely community feel and from the smell of it, very good coffee!
A gathering of elements found about the place that I’m planning to work with to create the garden space and the work installed: rusting steel, chalk stone, concrete, iron stone, stainless steel and the odd bit of gradually decaying wood..
#workinprogress for a new space and garden for sculpture and installation Brighstone village, Isle of Wight, UK.
#meetthemaker day 2 is about inspiration. I love the sea. Swimming in it, walking by it, looking at it while eating an ice cream, sailing on it. I'm lucky enough to live around the corner from the beach so I can visit often. I love old wooden groynes worn smooth and stumpy by the tide and bolts rusted and exploding like flowers. There's nothing better than heading down after a big storm to see what treasures the tide has brought in. I've always collected sea glass. I'm drawn to it glinting like treasure and to driftwood for its soft barkless texture and muted colours. I started with jars of glass and vases of driftwood before starting to make pictures. First for myself, then friends and then to sell. I'm a big knitter and have been for years. The idea for driftwood buttons just arrived in my head fully formed. Looking for buttons one day it just struck me that driftwood toggles would be perfect for garter stitch, undyed or tweedy yarns. And so I started making them.
Wight Salt has had minimal presence in the foreboding West Wight and I intrepidly set out after my last Yafford post to Butcher Ben Sibley of PJ Thorne Butchers in Freshwater. I think I won him over...not immediately, but he warmed to me and we agreed to supply to see what people might think of it....over to you people😁
Our stall is all set up for tomorrow’s family festive fair in the Community Centre!
Come and visit us from 11am to 4pm, we have lots of great stalls and items on show including the vintage double decker bus that you might have seen around the West Wight recently!
