Friday, December 14 “The stockings were hung by the chimney with care”
When I was a child I did not hang a Christmas stocking.
My sisters, brothers and I lined up our shoes by the fire place, oldest to youngest, left to right - Pat, Moira, Sheila, Iain and Duncan.
My mother was French, and we followed the French custom.
Although I was born and grew up in Scotland (my father was Scottish) we never once hung up a Christmas stocking.
Whether running to check out the contents of a stocking or a pair of shoes, the anticipation was the same.
Children the world over wait expectantly for Christmas morning and the gifts that await.
During Advent we anticipate the birth of Jesus, the gift that is more precious and priceless than any earthly present.
Almighty God, giver of all that is good, thank you for the gift of eternal life,
freely given to all.
