Lately I’ve been super fascinated with the intelligence inherent in living things. The way a walnut tree covers its babies in a thick green blanket until they’re ready to jump off into the world to plant their own roots. (I once had an entomology professor tell me I turned his scientific processes lecture into a children’s storybook.) But the protection, the careful holding until the earth is moist and ready for them— talk about intelligent!
Or a woman’s body (it’s all I really can speak to, forgive me, guys)— the way it can house a baby long enough for a mother to be born. Or the way it can feed a human being— inside and outside the womb— entirely off itself for years! 🤰🏻
I mean, c’mon. AMAZING.
Walnut means “intelligent” in the language of flowers.
