No. 6 • First Day of Whole 30 and it’s not a bad start! It was also my first time making butternut squash. Trick was to microwave for 30 seconds prior to sautéing so they soften a bit. For my green-beans I drizzled in olive oil seasoned to taste and microwaved for 3-4 minutes. Half a smoothie made with unsweetened almond milk, 3 strawberries, half a banana and a handful of spinach. Whole30 Day15!! Half way to the finish line. Today I woke up in a really weird mood and I could not shake it. It felt like it was Thursday, I was already fed up with work and just BlAH! Day 2- Breakfast Sweet Potato Hash (guys this was AMAZING! 🤗) I kind of just made this up, but here’s what I did to create this goodness: ▪️peel & cube sweet potatoes and boil til soft, spread out on pan ▪️dice half an onion & sauté ▪️cut up Aidell’s chicken & apple sausage (I used 3) and throw in with onions and brown them slightly ▪️scoop onion & sausage combo onto the sweet potatoes ▪️make a little hole in the mixture for each egg and crack eggs ▪️bake at 425 for 15-20 min ▪️top with avocado 🥑 #whole30breakfast #whole30 #whole30recipes #aidellschickenapplesausage #sweetpotatohash

Well this was a fun, beautiful recipe! Berry Coconut Breakfast Bake (but really it’s good any time of day!) Good wholesome ingredients and so satisfying. Sweetness from the berries and nice texture from the coconut and chia seeds. I substituted the almond milk for a lesser amount of coconut milk, and used blueberries and raspberries instead of strawberries. Week #2! Day-8 💪🏼 Quick easy meal to get me out the door this morning. Tried of eggs I decided to have only bacon 🥓 and fruit (blended). The fruit smoothie is not recommended on #whole30 but not prohibited 😬 I made sure to put in the appropriate amount of servings for fruit and get in my protein with the bacon .......... 🦄 A Dose of Jo: As I'm learning, the reason against smoothies is because most smoothies/green juices contain high sugar content. Eating your veggies or fruits keeps you fuller longer, as it takes time to digest compared to liquifying them. Plus you get the fiber too. *Drinking them also sends a different signal to your brain versus chewing it* (still need to read up on this point/fact). This meal actually left me feeling full till lunch time! 😍Won't be doing many smoothies on Whole30 but on the run, it was a good choice for me 👍🏻👍🏻 ....... 🥓Bacon @applegate 🍌 1 whole banana & 1/2 cup Blueberries 1 cup of organic unsweetened almond milk

Hiiiiii! I just wanted to do a #whole30 update since I'm halfway to the finish line! 🏆 I'm proud to say that this whole30 has taught me so much in so little time. I have learned how to cook (ok, mostly use my crockpot), and experiment in the kitchen! The foods you put in your body REALLY DO affect how you feel and you can make EASY healthy swaps for your favorites. • M A C R O S • Do you count them? . I get messages all the time asking what I eat in a day, and if I count my calories/macros. The truth is I don’t. . I know for many this is a way to make sure they’re progressing towards their health goal, but for me it just doesn’t work. Instead I focus on balancing my plate at each meal and aim to hit my protein target every day. . I simply fill half my plate with non-starchy veggies🥒🥕🥦, a quarter with lean protein🍗🍳🥩, and the remaining quarter with slow digestion carbs🍠🍚🍞. A sprinkle of nuts/seeds, some avo🥑 or splash of olive oil dressing and I’m completely satisfied. . Eating like this has helped me balance my weight without being obsessive about numbers or exact macros. . But I know everyone is different so I’m curious to know- what works for you? . I did some batch cooking over the weekend and made this egg bake I found on @40aprons blog. It’s so good and bursting with flavor! ▫️ I followed the recipe except for swapping out the basil for Italian seasoning and left out the sausage because I wanted to make it vegetarian. ▫️ In a 9x13 pan it makes 8 slices, so I had 2 slices topped with half an avocado for breakfast today. ▫️ Combined with the Shepherds Pie I made for dinner last night, breakfast and lunch are pretty much taken care of this week! ▫️ #whole30 #whole30january #januarywhole30 #whole30breakfast #whole30recipes

Hope everyone is having a fab Monday so far!🌤 This #whole30breakfast *almost* makes me forget how much I miss oatmeal and all the other sweet-type breakfasts!🤤 . #WhatsOnMyPlate: 1 cup natural frozen hash browns + 1/2 cup chopped bell pepper + 1/4 cup chopped onion + 1 sliced chicken apple @aidellssausage pan-fried over medium heat with olive oil cooking spray and original @beardedbutcherblend (👈🏼this stuff is like the best ever seasoning salt with NO SUGAR). Throw sausage hash on a plate and top with 2 whole eggs pan-fried in 1 tsp. @organicvalley ghee. Sprinkle with parsley and @tapatiohotsauce 🔥👌🏼 . Calories (as shown): 495kcal, Fat: 27g, Carbs: 30g, Fiber: 6g, Sugar: 7g (natural sugar from the apple and veggies), Protein: 27g, Sodium: 957mg . The best thing about this #januarywhole30 has been re-discovering my appreciation for eggs🍳, seared meats🍗🥩, raw and roasted veggies🥦🥕🍠, and fresh fruits🍎🍊🍇. Before #whole30, I had gotten to the point where a lot of veggies tasted bitter🍅😝 and most fruit seemed sour... except maybe bananas!🍌😳 The worst thing about this program, was going to the @fredmeyerstores deli and not being able to have the oven-baked chicken breast (bc traces of corn flour) and being stuck with either a piece of fruit or a Lara bar😒 (neither of which are filling due to little to no protein). As a nutritionist, I feel like the program forces you to make sub-par nutrition choices in circumstances where a more filling, nutritious food has one forbidden ingredient. Other than that, I have loved eating this way and am not dreading the next 8 days at all! Some people have asked me - “will I lose weight on Whole30?” The answer is, NOT if you’re eating more calories than you burn (in which case you WILL gain weight)! . The first week I lost 5 lbs. (mostly water weight + some fat loss), but after that, as I continue to eat over 2,500 calories, I gained a couple pounds back.🤭 After reigning in my calories a bit to 2,100kcal, I started losing again (still breastfeeding🍼 my 7-month-old which adds about 400kcal to my energy needs). Hope this helps anyone considering @whole30 in terms of what to expect!😊

As it turns out, making Mediterranean Power Bowls for this week’s meal prep was an EXCELLENT idea. Here’s how I made them: 1. Make a base of greens with kale, baby spinach, and/or spring mix. 2. Top with fresh tomatoes, red onions, garbanzo beans, roasted red peppers, cucumbers, and a protein (I slow-cooked bone-in chicken breasts and shredded them). 3. Make a Garlic Tahini dressing (so easy—I used Cooking Light’s recipe) and drizzle on top. 4. Top with toasted pine nuts, pink salt, pepper, and herbs! • I love a meal like this because it’s chock-full of fibrous, colorful carbs that have a low glycemic load, so my blood sugar and energy will be steady all afternoon. All those beautiful veggies pair perfectly with quality protein and healthy fat in the olive oil-based dressing and pine nuts. It’s a meal full of flavor, and full of good energy. This European breakfast board I made this morning is giving me all the feels of happiness. I had all these goodies in the fridge and decided to do a no cook breakfast besides heating up the sweet potato toasts I made yesterday. I am obsessed with the new salami my good friend Zeph of @proletariatmeat is making, it’s so delicious and flavorful. One of my favorite ways to eat hard boiled eggs is topped with a bit of homemade mayo, smoked paprika and @jacobsensaltco black garlic salt on all the veggies too. The olives are stuffed with anchovies, which are so good. A pretty cup of latte and this morning couldn’t have been off to a better start. Also crushing on my new board from @facturegoods ohh so much. . I am so grateful to be working from home since September ever since I got laid off from Nike, it has been the best time of my life so far. Yesterday I made a batch of carnitas and I reheated up some this morning for breakfast on baby kale, radishes and spring onion. Topped with a pastured fried egg. Focusing on lots of greens and protein again this week. Eggs are such a fantastic food for the brain because they contain choline which is a precursor to brain nutrient citicoline, which helps blood flow to the brain. They also contain B12 and are a significant source of omega 3 fatty acids. I cooked mine in a bit of coconut oil today. 🍳

🥕Veggie Hash!🥕 Spiralized carrots are a great alternative for potatoes!!! So today I started frying an egg with the intention of having it on some toast. Plugged in the toaster. Checked the pantry...no bread. Put away the toaster. Checked for potatoes to make hash browns. No potatoes. Time to improvise!! I threw together some spiralized carrots, greens, and bell peppers and fried them with until the carrots were crispy. @WHOLE30 TACO SEASONING 🌮 make your seasoning at home, and make it in bulk so come busy weeknights you can simply scoop out 2 tbsp., brown meat and serve! I love my taco meat in salads, on sweet potatoes, in a bowl with cauli rice... the options are endless! 🙌🏻 Here's the bulk recipe: -1/4 c. Sea Salt -1/4 c. Crushed Red Pepper -1/4 c. Paprika -3/4 c. Cumin -1 c. Chili Powder Here's what to do: Combine and store in an airtight jar. To use, add 2 tsbp. per 1 lb. of meat with 1/3 c. water. Shake the bottle before measuring to ensure an even blend 😋 The blend is medium heat: add more paprika if you like, or mix it up by adding chipotle powder for a "chipotle" version! 🌶🌶🌶

Made a veggie heavy version of shakshuka this morning and it was killer. And now I am so full I may never need to eat again 😳. Super simple. Sautéed zucchini, onions, mushrooms, green pepper, spinach and salt. Then added a #whole30 compliant marinara (I used @costco ‘s organic marinara and it was solid). I simmered the sauce and vegetables until all was hot and bubbly, then I made three wells in the sauce for the eggs and covered until the whites were cooked through. And then I ate nearly the entire pan. With a spoon. Because it seemed a spoon was necessary.😋 #whole30breakfast #januarywhole30 @thefeedfeed

A few things... if we want to get extremely technical about it, this particular epic bar isn’t Whole30 compliant because of the minuscule amount of maple sugar in it. Will I still eat it during Whole 30? Absolutely. Why? Because I will tweak Whole 30 as I see fit to conform to my unique experience. Does that mean I go crazy and bend the rules all the time? Not exactly. I live in MT... the odds of getting fresh wild caught salmon is slim to none..... so I opt for canned, smoked, or in bar form every once in a while. By slightly bending rules like this, I am able to adhere more accurately to the program, and utilize it as a base for long term habits.. look at the bigger picture here. If you’re looking for perfection and a black and white program here..... this is not it.
