Ever since the holidays, I have not been feeling my very best. I definitely caught a cold in early January and even with my #whole30january2018 challenge & #aipketoreset during February, I'm still not quite back to optimal health. I'm not going to sugar coat it, my friends, #thissucks I've been trying to consume as much Vitamin-C as possible because it is necessary for the regrowth of all body tissues. Also, it helps to form Collagen, absorption of iron, support our immune system and the maintenance of cartilage, bones and teeth. Tonight's dinner was herb roasted beef tips rounded out with dill roasted carrots and seasoned roasted potatoes. I made an avocado cream sauce to dip all this goodness in! I did it! I made it through my Whole30. There were a few hiccups here and there - accidental stevia in my kombucha and ricebran oil on some nuts ☹️- but overall, it was a pretty good Whole30. It really helped to have the Whole30 Day by Day book by @melissa_hartwig to let me know what to expect and to give me some encouragement each day. I plan to keep going for a few more weeks and only reintroduce foods when it feels right. Plus, I had decades of alternating between diets and binge eating, and that is not going to be magically fixed in 30 days. It’s crazy what 30 days will do to your body - when you concisely decide to make changes to your diet and push harder in the gym 🙌🏼🔥💪🏼 . I’m so PROUD to say I completed #Whole30 🎉 It was hard, no doubt about that, but I did it every single day for 30 days and never gave up! I’m going into February with clear intentions and in a better place of how to balance clean eating with moderation of eating “not clean” . I feel lighter & healthier + my skin has gotten clearer, I’ve been sleeping better and easier & I don’t crave a bunch of junk like I used to . . Shoutout to the trainers at @castrovalleyfitness for pushing me everyday I came to class and giving me the motivation & encouragement I needed! . . A BIG shoutout to my accountability partners @sroesbery & @jacquiboggess for doing this challenge with me! I still have a long way to go to hit my “goal” weight, but I’m feeling amazing! I had hesitated about pressing “post” on this because I was nervous about sharing my last day of Whole 30 “after” pics...but then I thought: I’m proud of how much Hard work I’ve put in this past (almost) year and if my progress (as Samoa’s it may be compared to some) may be, if it inspires one other person who has been on the fence about getting healthier take that first step, than I’ll do it. I’m a big girl, always have been even at my lowest weight. So I’ll never be a rail thin kinda gal. That’s ok with me because I also know I’m getting stronger and I’m healthier than I’ve been in years (even when I was at my lowest weight!). I did Whole 30 for a few reasons: 1) to challenge myself and really show that I truly could live without some of those food items I had thought I’d just die without. 2) to better learn my relationship with food...and see it as a friend that fuels my body instead of the enemy...

My son wore the perfect sweatshirt today! He ran down and screamed mommy, I’m so excited for breakfast! Lol. He’s my eater:) Anyways, this is how I felt today after completing my Whole 30! It was EPIC. Day 31 today and I feel amazing... I won’t lie there were times I wanted to throw a tantrum like a kid when I watched my friends eat cheese and my family enjoy birthday cake but I pushed through and it got me here!!! Feeling so many things but mostly motivated and grateful. It’s a willpower game. And I came out winning:) Here are my top 5 reasons why you should try it too: 1. Felt so inspired towards my career and got my mojo back! I’ve been feeling clarity in what the next 5 years of WBC will look like. 2. My skin is glowing and many thought I didn’t look a day over 24😜in the last three weeks. 3. My hair looks fuller. Thank god! 4. Even as a chef, I pushed myself to try new recipes and create new ones all the time...that’s always a win for me. 5. I lost 6lbs. And I ate a lot and ate a lot of fat too! I am so happy to be able to post this. Completing the @whole30 has meant a great deal to me for many reasons. It truly has and is continuing to change my relationship with food. It has affected the way I’m feeling physically and emotionally probably during one of the most challenging months I have had in some time. But one of the biggest reasons this Whole 30 has meant a great deal to me is because it’s the first goal I have accomplished where I completed something I started and I did it all by myself. And what I mean by that is...I have always felt I couldn’t accomplish a goal on my own unless I had someone in my physical presence doing it with me. But I did and it means more to me than many may know. Choosing this kind of goal to accomplish is truly making a decision to change my life and that feels amazing! I am very grateful to the people in my life who supported me during this 30 day journey and I am so wonderfully grateful for this online community. #IAmWhole30 #Whole30January2018

I made it! Yesterday was my last day of Whole 30. The pictures on the left are of me on Day 1 of Whole 30 and the pictures on the right are of me on Day 31 post Whole 30. Obviously by the photos you can tell that I’ve lost weight (13.5 pounds) and my stomach is a lot less bloated. In addition to weight loss and bloating I have experienced these non-scale victories (NSVs): happier, more outgoing, laugh more, less stressed, handling stress better, fewer mood swings, fewer sugar cravings, fewer carb cravings, improved body image, improved self confidence, less reliance on the scale, glowing skin, flatter stomach, leaner, clothes fitting better, more defined muscle tone, dramatically improved digestive health, healthier relationship with food, practicing mindful eating, sleeping more, waking up feeling rested, improved attention span, improved memory, exercise harder and more often, can lift heavier things, hit new PRs, more coordination, balance is better and new cooking scales. The Whole 30 was a reset for me. It was a way to look at food in a different way and post Whole 30 I’m not going to jump back onto the processed food and sugar train again. I’m going to eat mindfully and slowly reintroduce items back in my diet I would like to incorporate for daily living. WHOLE 30 COMPLETE. I don’t have a big testimony to bear to you but I do have five valuable things I learned. 1. I can do things I think I can’t. A year ago if someone told me I could cut sugar for a month I would have laughed an said “well that’s just stupid.” But I did it. And that was one big reason I did this was to see if I could give up something I love. 2. Good food is good energy. I learned how Whole Foods are a slow, steady burn. Instead of short bursts of energy that leave you tired an hour later. 3. You shouldn’t start your day with sugar. As much as i love a good bowl of cereal, I performed much better with a protein filled breakfast. I consider my old breakfasts dessert now. Like, a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios sounds like a great thing to follow a good dinner with. 4. Meal planning is hard- but useful. It was really nice to know what we were going to eat and have everything planned. It made dinner prep simple and family dinner around the table a nice, memorable experience. 5. Nothing is permanent, this diet was a great learning experience and although I did do it, I know from here on I will allow myself those tasty treats every now and then and I will go out to eat without making a million adjustments to what I order. But I AM more aware of what is going on my body and how my body reacts. I feel like this was a good “getting to know you” month with my insides and we are on the same page now. Everyone asks “did you lose weight?” Yes, that is the direct consequence of not eating sugar or dairy for a month. I for sure have clearer skin. I definitely have more energy and steady sleep. Those things I want to keep. Weight can come and go, but I want to feel good and that’s what I got out of this. So, check. ✅

It’s been a minute (or a week or two) since I last posted because things have been crazy around here...*but* I was able to stay focused and keep my sh*t together because I was doing #whole30 this month and truly believe eating well/exercising daily has kept me healthy so I can deal with and take care of other things. Look, I know, I was skeptical initially and didn’t have a lot of hope of even finishing. I mean, who wants to give up alcohol/dairy/grains/sugar/legumes all at the same time?! It wasn’t me. However, I was doing it with a a great group of supportive like minded women so that made it easier...also, what’s a better time to try it than at the beginning of a new year right after the holidays? I was intrigued by the idea of eliminating some foods that are considered “trigger foods” which are often associated with inflammation/sleep problems/heartburn/digestion issues and resetting my body and brain while eating a less processed/more clean /whole food diet (which I thought I was beforehand, by the way, but there were so many things that I had let slip in). I felt all the things when I first started: #deprivation #hangry #irritability #fomo ...and then about a week in, it was gone and I realized I was eating so much food...and it was deliciously filling ...and I was sleeping better/had clearer skin/felt focused and energized. Added bonus: #droppedapantsize !! Today is #day30 for me and while it’s been an interesting and informative experiment, I’m ready to have a bowl of Greek yogurt and a drink! ... WHOLE30 | DAY 31 ... I’ve had a lot of people ask, “so, what’s next?” It’s a great question... For some Whole30 could end and so could all of the potentially good habits they are trying to build. For others, they know, in order to make well established eating habits, Whole30 must continue unchanged. For me, Whole30 is a GREAT reset. It’s, not for everyone, and it’s not a long term diet. This is what the end of #Whole30 means to me: ✔️attitude changed towards food (ie. I don’t have to eat it because it is there) ✔️ eating more veggies, at every meal ✔️ no refined sugar. ZERO. ✔️minimal natural sugars ✔️ only homemade grains. (ie. Sourdough bread) ✔️ minimal dairy No changes today and there will probably be more added to this list. Food freedom is not about adhering to a list of rules, it is taking ownership of your food choices. @whole30 Round 7 is in the books! Woohoo! How about you?? If you started Jan 1, did you finish all 30 days? If you started later, are you still going? For those of you who completed the 30 days, what are your victories? I lost about 6lbs while nursing my baby, and I'm only about 1lb off my pre-pregnancy weight. NSVs: milk supply steady/increasing, fitting into pre-pregnancy clothes (I was still in maternity clothes for months after my firstborn), more patient/present with my threenager and baby, falling asleep quickly and deeply (when it happens 😉), feeling great mentally and physically!! What's your reintro plan? I finished Whole 30!! So excited about this not only because I miss eating grains. I am excited because I was able to stick to this all the way. Even when I got the stomach flu. I have lost 12lbs in a course of thirty days by eating clean. My biggest weakness is bread. I managed to overcome the cravings and stick to the diet. It wasn’t easy but what is? I have also learned and realized how much sugar is in our foods. How much unnecessary crap is in our meats. I learned clean eating. I will definitely take this along my journey and Will do another Whole 30 soon. I recommend this to everyone. Although @stinkfingaz wasn’t with me to do this program. He did also complete it. I have just completed the whole30 program. My plan is to continue on as I get plenty of calories and I fulfill my macro requirements. Some days are lower carbs, others are higher, I am not measuring my macros but doing so intuitively by listening to my body and giving it what it needs. On January 1st I got on the scale and measured myself for this. I got on the scale 1 more time around the middle of the month because I decided to do the #250kchallenge and at that point I was down 2.3lbs and today I’m down 4.5lbs. I’ve lost inches where I most wanted to keeping my fingers crossed that not too many inches come off where I’ve been working on muscle gains and so far the tape is giving me feedback I like! So I will continue with my journey and see what the next 3 weeks can deliver! Post Whole30 stats I know I know it’s all about the NSVs right 😉 I waited until this morning to use my gym’s body analysis machine and the results are ... I lost 3.8kg! 💃💃💃 Does happy dance, regrettably I wasn’t all fat and I did lose a little bit of muscle mass but since I’ve mainly done cardio for the last 4 weeks that’s not a surprise. DAY 30: We like to close this out with a big ol’ bang- and crab legs seemed like a great way to do it! I’m not ready to reflect upon this month yet, and believe me that post will come. But tonight I’m gonna sit back and enjoy these delicious ghee-soaked crab legs in my belly. 😌 🦀 Breakfast: bananas and nut butter with almonds. Lunch: veggies and apples. Dinner: expensive crab legs with melted ghee and broccoli. WOOT! Day THIRTY!!!

I have gotten a lot of questions about our @whole30 journey since I shared that Mike, Kace and I were completing 30 days of real, whole food; especially how the kids were adjusting to eating so clean. I can not brag on Kace enough about how dedicated he is to following this plan and not even complaining. I've learned the key to staying on track with this plan (and all plans) is prepare ahead of time and ensure we have food prepped and ready to eat. Any time we have to look for food or take time to cook when we are already super hungry will increase the chance of cheating. I also try to find recipes that we already love and tweak them to fit within the plan guidelines. For example, we ate Sloppy Joe's tonight, it was all homemade and served over a baked potato instead of bread. This dinner was delicious and a HUGE hit for everyone! The package on the left, 20 oz, I got at Walmart the other day and it is really good for making chicken vegetable soup. # Then the package on the right (3 different color bell peppers, onions), I saw at Kroger today and thought that it would be great to use part of that and part of the other package that I got at Walmart and add a chicken leg meat piece to make a thick chicken vegetable stew. Day 30 breakfast. This is an omelette stuffed with roasted veggies. I used @thedefineddish recipe for the egg cooking method. I specifically like hers bc I despise an overcooked egg and her recipe gently cooks the egg to perfection. Oh my.!! Spinach and artichoke twice baked potatoes This was my first time using nutritional yeast tonight. I think I added to much for the taters I had to stuff, but delicious just the same!!! Oh my gosh, @sprouts wins the prize today! Swipe left for all the photos! # ✓ Sugar free Rice vinegar, which is why I went into Sprouts, to see if they carry the sugar free version and they do. I use this for my Asian salad dressing that is so good. # ✓ 4th & Heart Ghee oil # ✓ 4th & Heart Ghee Oil spray. Notice the two difference bottle caps which I'm guessing spray a little bit differently. # ✓ 4th & Heart Ghee. The only one I eat is the Himalayan salt ghee, which tastes just like better and spread some butter. That may be a good thing or it may not be a good thing because it is so close to the butter taste lol A note on @fourthandheart ... You will never find any ghee products that taste better than theirs do (not even homemade). Their price is a little higher than I like to pay, but it is so well worth the money spent. When I get paid in February, I am definitely trying their Ghee Oil to see how that is as well. It would be great if they were to be interested in running a giveaway on our 44,000+ member Whole30 Facebook group, wouldn't it? # ✓ Sumo Tangerine. I heard about this type of Tangerine on a Whole30 Facebook group and had to try it out. They are better than any orange I've ever had and don't taste like tangerines at all. However, the price will keep me from buying another one as this one cost me $2.29. They are $2.99 a pound. I made @nomnompaleo’s potsticker stir fry for dinner tonight using what we had around (so some substitutions) plus a Savoy cabbage because the Napa at my local WF were all weird looking. Subs include beef instead of pork, ACV instead of rice vin, no mushrooms (🙅🏻‍♀️), and no fish sauce because unfortunately ours wasn’t compliant. I also topped it with sesame seeds because I’m weirdly obsessed with them. I used the slow cooker chicken chili Verde from the whole 30 fast and easy cookbook as a guide for tonight's deliciousness you see here! Because I was short on time; I cooked this in my IP. Dumped in the chicken breasts 1 1/4 pounds, 12oz of salsa verde, 1 tsp cumin, salt and pepper and set it in manual for 25 min and then did my stock pile of dishes. I then took my frozen cauli rice and sautéed it in some EVOO then added salt and pepper at the end, some cilantro and fresh lime juice. When the time was up I did a quick release and dumped in a can of green chilies. I shredded the chicken and let it rest of a bit. Then I topped this bowl of cauli rice with the deliciousness. I added Some fresh cilantro and a squeeze of fresh lime. I used to be addicted to pleasing people. I just encourage you to see what happens when you prioritize yourself. As mothers, this is hard but I can tell you if you practice self care and self love, it gets easier. . I DID IT!!! I made my $60 budget w a bit to spare....$52.43. Shopped at Aldi and then Walmart for a few things. I need to get nutritional yeast yet.... Yellow potatoes, russet taters, kale, spinach, white vinegar, artichoke hearts, two cans of tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, mushrooms, eggs, four avocados, two packages of chicken breast, two cans of tomato sauce, two cans of olives, leaf lettuce, spaghetti sauce, two cans of coconut milk, matchstick carrots, a bag of garden lettuce, tomatoes, blueberries, cilantro, green onions and limes. Three non-compliant items is bread English muffins and crackers for the girls. @aldiusa

I remember when I was in college we could go into a restaurant and order a cup of soup and a salad for lunch and it was always so good. # This is salad with a hamburger patty chopped up in it along with a tomato and my homemade Asian salad dressing. The glass mug is some sweet potato and carrot soup. The funny thing is that in the last three years I've had maybe 3 or 4 salads for meals but this year, I just seem to enjoy them for lunch a lot so I'm eating more of them for lunch and sometimes dinner. #whole30january2018 #hitthespot
