The last 6 years have been full of amazing highs and lows: marriage, graduate school, moving across the country, the birth of my first child, career changes, crippling postpartum depression(but mostly anxiety) and on and on. And with that I have gained 55lbs.😬 I have spent the last year shaming myself for the way I look and the way I feel. BUT that ends today. I vow to try a little harder to be a little better everyday. Y U M M Y - so my hubby and I are on Day 15 of the Whole 30 challenge! It’s raining like crazy today, and it’s one of those days where you just want something warm and comforting to eat. What’s not helping matters is that my 6 year old asking me ALL DAY that he wants to eat “something yummy” (his food choices have been unwillingly changed due to our challenge 😂). So here is the unreal creation I made today. I didn’t accurately measure everything but here is my best estimation. It was mind blowingly delicious! . . . . 🍎 A P P L E N U T C R U M B L E🍎 2 peeled pink lady apples 1 tsp Cinnamon 1/2 tsp Nutmeg 2 tbsp ghee 1/4 cup pecans 1/4 cup macadamia nuts 2 tbsp raisins . . . . Peel apples, sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Melt one tbsp of ghee and add it to the apples. Bake apples at 350F for 20 mins. In the meantime chop nuts and mix with 1 tbsp of melted ghee. Mix in raisins into nut mixture. Day 6 ✔️ Today was a h.a.r.d. day Had my first day of training for my job, and they bought us pizza for lunch. Had to settle for lettuce with no dressing 😩 also had to order my salad for girls night (currently sipping on water instead of wine) with no cheese croutons or cranberries, and subbed dressing for oil & vinegar. Good thing I checked on the chicken because they only made it with oil vinegar basil oregano and some other spices so i could have it! Today I learned that whole30 on-the-go when you aren’t 100% prepared is a lot harder! My @whole30 journey began last October. I decided that after years of telling myself that I needed to get serious about my health and wellness, I just needed to "walk the talk". After years of struggling with my weight, yo-yo dieting, dealing with insecurity and anxiety, and a whole lot of negative self-talk, I knew that I had to turn away from this destructive path I was on. It's a work in progress but I am taking it one day at a time. I need to continually remind myself of how much I am worth. I am worthy of the time and energy and the self-care. Sometimes it's just giving myself time to read or to take a walk or to meet a friend for coffee. Today, it was spending extra time to cook a healthy and tasty lunch for myself and my husband on this gorgeous Saturday in sunny California. What did you enjoy for lunch today? 🙌🏼 I used to only diet and exercise to try and change my body. Plus, I never did it right anyway🤷🏼‍♀️ The last 3 years I’ve been more focused on treating my body right and being more consistent. I think eating issues will always be some level of a struggle for me, but I will never stop trying to make the best decisions for my health and body💗

Dinner tonight was amazing! Stir fry with chicken 🍗, broccoli 🥦 , onion, cashews, cooked in sesame oil, coconut aminos & garlic. Day 5 ☑️ complete! Even though it’s been such a short amount of time I’m so proud of myself. I have literally been struggling with my eating so much since having my son. Every time I attempt to eat healthy I fail very soon into it. But this time I’m going to continue staying prepared and having my meals prepped which really helps me so I don’t feel the need to go for something unhealthy when I don’t have something prepared!

Day 5 ✔️ Just another busy day! I’m finding that the hardest part is the cravings for sweets that come at night. Trying to combat it with a piece of fruit and water and trying to not eat past 8 o’clock—which is a challenge for me! Didn’t fit in a workout today, and that’s ok! Trying to not feel guilty about days when I skip workouts because a few missed days when I’m busy or my body is tired is not going to reverse my progress! My #Whole30 journey is complete! . . I had a lot of non-scale victories: more energy, better sleep, clearer skin, & improved digestion. If I were to do it again, I would cut out nuts & limit my fruit intake (I definitely over ate these) and incorporate more veggies and protein. Shocked I made it 30 days without stevia or any added sweetners. I used to have at least 3 packets a day- today I went to add it to my coffee & it tasted wayyy too sweet. I’m also much more cautious about reading labels now.. “healthy” items I wouldn’t even think to check have lots of additives and preservatives in them. No gym for me yesterday. Summer is officially here! I love having meal prep on hand during the summer months. I never know when I will be taking a spontaneous weekend trip, or sometimes I just don't want to take the heat of the kitchen. Summer is for relaxation right?? Sometimes the big goal seems overwhelming and hard to reach so today celebrate the small victories and be proud of your achievements. - I started Whole30 on Monday of this week. Today I’m down 5 pounds, a loss of 1” from waist, 1/2” from hips and 1/2” from each thigh. Day 5 done✔️ tonight was zucchini bolognaise because I didn’t plan what we were eating tonight and it’s easy AF. Also, Instagram picture vs. reality! I’m only eating 3 times a day, so my meals are ginormous! In saying that, when half the bowl is full of zucchini noodles it’s providing lots of volume, for little energy. Double protein serve so that I’m covering my protein needs for the day too 💁🏼

day 25. been starting our days at my Gram’s house the last few weeks for the kids’ swim lessons. it’s not Christmas, it’s now that’s the most wonderful time of year. she cooks for us every morning after lessons, has for years. breakfast is her A-game. her biscuits and gravy are so freaking phenomenal they’ve ruined me for any other...unless I’m in the south, where she is from. Northern biscuits and gravy are hockey pucks and paste. yet I haven’t eaten one biscuit this year. Day 4 ✔️ Today was leftovers day! 😋 also got to eat lunch with my beautiful mom (pictured) because I was subbing at her school and we had the same lunch break! The workout pictured is a little HIIT circuit I created to target the upper body. This is the kind of circuit I would plan for one of my HIIT classes at UREC! Definitely not my best workout today!!! Between being still sore from leg day on Tuesday, working all day with children in a hot school, and feeling sluggish from the sugar withdrawal I was struggling! Did that HIIT circuit followed by little light lifting/core and called it a DAY! Really hoping my energy levels increase soon! Keeping Whole30 social is one of the most difficult challenges to overcome. Sometimes it's easier to just tell your friends you can't come out to dinner because you would rather not have the temptation. But it doesn't have to be this way! It's important that we don't completely put our social lives on hold while on Whole30. If going out is still uncomfortable for you, throw your own Whole30 dinner party or bring your own Whole30 dish to a summer bbq. Share the beauty of clean eating! Yes!!! 🙌🏻 Day 4 of Whole 30 and still going strong! I haven’t had a bite or a lick of anything that doesn’t fall under whole30 guidelines..which is great for me because I’ve come in contact with ice cream, donuts, Starbucks drinks and am still staying strong. However, I have been slacking on taking photos of my meals 😕 I keep planning to take photos and half way through my meal realize it wouldn’t be a very appealing picture. I’ll make sure to post my lunch today!

I did not finish my Whole30. I’ve been feeling pretty discouraged and disappointed because I was feeling so good and had come so far. Just in the few days I’ve been off round I’ve noticed I’m more sluggish in the A.M. and I’m back to feeling bloated again. But, I can’t say my first try did not come without its successes! I struggled through most days, fighting off cravings and dreaming for July 1st to come to start reintroduction, but I taught myself that I really do have self control if I want it badly enough & that I CAN resist temptation. I learned how good it feels to fuel your body with good, clean food. I learned how amazing food prep can really be. My wedding ring fits perfectly again AND I lost 12 pounds in the process! All of my non-scale victories were a testament to the hard work I put in. I’ll return to Whole30 again one day but for now I’ll take the lessons I learned and use them to be the best version of myself. Day 3 ✔️ Today was another challenging but great day! Went to the beach with @blondeonthe_run and packed my own lunch to bring! Courtney is an amazing friend and is ALSO doing the whole30 with me, so it was nice to have someone who also had to pack her own food! My biggest challenge came today when I came home to my mom having a party with snacks such as cupcakes, brownies, more pizza, and WINE 😩 I resisted temptation though and filled up my plate with fruit and veggies! ✖️Day 4✖️ How you start your day can really determine everything. A “good” day for me is to get up early, do some form of a workout, come home, have a black coffee and then get ready. That triggers me that I’m on track with everything I want to achieve with my goals. The mornings I sleep in and don’t sit and have my black coffee, are usually mornings where I’m all flustered and unmotivated, and barely pull it together for the rest of the day. (And generally end up emotionally eating) Morning routine is super important to me 😌🙌🏼

I usually have some kind of fruit with breakfast and with strawberries in season and readily available everywhere, I’ve been enjoying them more lately. They are SO good with a little almond butter, some unsweetened shredded coconut, and slivered almonds. 🍓 @wild_friends is my favorite almond butter...it’s the perfect consistency and I think tastes the best! (I’ve tried ALL kinds of almond butter and keep going back to this!) I did it! I finished the Whole 30! Although I’ve chosen to continue for another 15 days with my husband, I did my weigh in this morning and took progress photos to really see the impact just 30 days had on my body. I lost 11 pounds and several inches off my waist, hips, and thighs. My clothes fit better and my body is feeling good. I didn’t change my activity level because I really wanted to see what simply changing my eating would do for me - and I’m very happy with the results😃

Sorry I’ve been a little absent this past week, my grad school responsibilities and some well-needed family time took priority. I’ve had some busy days/evenings this week (and let’s not even talk about the amount of coffee I’ve had!) but Nut Pods have gotten me through!
