Kay Brothers Amery Vineyard McLaren Vale hillside Shiraz 2011
Winery was started in the 1890s by Frederick and Herbert Kay. Oldest winery in McLaren Vale still in founding family hands.
2011 was a wet, cool growing season with disease pressures impacting to varying degrees. Although the vintage started three weeks later than normal harvest was roughly the same time as the need to harvest against disease pressure was present. The high rainfall resulted in larger than average bunch weights and an approximately 20% increase of average yields.
The wine is medium ruby color with a moderate intensity on the nose. Displays dry cherries, pepper, gamey, leather, cloves, vanilla, chocolate. Even for a rough year this still turned out quite nice.
