It’s definitely not easy living in Syracuse NY between the months of December and March. Gloomy grey skies, cold temps, lack of sun....and the list goes on. My NY peeps, ya feel me?!
Unfortunately it’s so common around these parts and not everyone can drop everything and go on a tropical vacation every winter. During this time of year I typically become more introverted. I rarely leave my house, which saves me money 🤷🏼♀️...so I guess that’s one positive thing. But most of the time I don’t even want to take the dog for a walk. I just become very unmotivated and the simplest task drains all of my energy. Seasonal depression is real you guys. I have been struggling with this for a very long time. I can’t be the only one, right?!
For those that are on the #StruggleBus with me this time of year, here are some tips to help fight those winter blues:
☀️Go outside for a walk even when it’s dark and gloomy. There is something about the fresh air that can thaw your winter blues.
☀️limit your alcohol intake - not only can it make you gain unwanted lbs, but it weakens immunity which can make you sick more often.
☀️Get adventurous! Try something new like a painting class, hot yoga class, puppy Pilates, goat yoga (you get the idea 😉) - anything that will boost your sensory experiences and prevent a negative frame of mind from setting in.
☀️Eating healthy and exercising! Gaining weight will NOT help your winter blues.
☀️Socializing/group settings - studies show that socializing makes up happy, more balanced individuals. Thankful for my Fitfam to keep me grounded during these tough months!
Do YOU struggle with seasonal depression too? If so, how do you fight it?!
