Our white button pompom mums typically start blooming in November, and harvest happens in December. They are always a welcome sight especially as the rain, gloom and cold descend in Winter. These cheerful blooms are a reminder that plants pull energy from the soil throughout the Seasons; they've got their own cycles, and will thrive as they please.
Chrysanthemum has a long history in Traditional Chinese medicine as a cooling herb. Its healing properties are especially linked to the lungs, liver, spleen, and kidneys. It is typically consumed as a tea, but can also be in decoction, pill or powder forms. We infuse the flowers, leaves and stalks in Olive Oil, and use the infused oil for cooling and anti-inflammatory effects.
