Texas Department of Agriculture states, in 2002, that 1% of the flowers sold in our state is grown in Texas with only about 25 commercial Texas growers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Small farmer/florist growers aren't counted in those numbers and my hope is to continue growing slowly (learning along the way) to help fill this niche in the Wichita Falls / North Texas area. It's difficult but I am learning how to tackle this climate every year and believe that this path has a beautiful harvest in the end. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let's GROW Texas! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . . . #girlboss #girlprenuer #womeninbusiness #womeninbiz #momboss #mombosslife #mompreneur #mompreneurs #risingtidesociety #smallbusinessowner #creativeentrepeneur #femaleentrepreneur #farmer #breakingstereotypes #farmher #femalefarm #womenwhofarm #farmlife #texasagriculture #wichitafallstx #wichitafalls #farmherlife #texasflowers #texasgrown #texas

Today I turn 23. It is on birthdays we often reflect on all we have done in this life, or even in the course of one year. Somehow from 22 until now, our family bought a farm, we grew a LOT of food and fed other people who put their faith and trust into our business, we took on 18 more chickens than we were used to and 8 ducks and a hive of bees, I was asked to write for awesome publications like @willowandsagemag and @heirloomgardenermag, I got to talk about all that I love @thebarniowa, we gained new neighbors and friends that are more like family, we are about to open a STORE, and I have never felt more connected to those around me than I do out here in the country. I have an amazing kiddo, who made it through these mama-requested photos yesterday evening like a trooper. He makes me laugh daily, pushes my buttons, and gives the best hugs. I am truly thankful for all that we get to experience in this life together. Thank you for your support and for being here to follow in our journey to a more wholesome, simple, and seasonal lifestyle! Here is to another spectacular year! 🍎🍺💛🍁 #UATRfarm and thanks to @thebarniowa for letting us make cider with their beautiful press this past weekend!

It’s really easy for me to get excited about the thing I’m doing, and I wanted to run my own business so I could get as excited as I wanted and no one could tell me to simmer down! (Some have tried!) So I’m really pumped on being a flower farmer and really happy to be at the @ascfginc conference with hundreds of other flower growers. Yesterday I met @foxfarms of Columbia, and she and I agreed that it’s really cool to be in a room of colleagues and look around and want to talk to everyone! We had both been in situations/jobs that weren’t like that. So I’m really excited about flower farming. - Flower farming is at a turning point, in my opinion. Sometimes growers say there’s no more room for new people, and that makes me really sad! Right now, 75 percent to 80 percent of flowers sold in the United States are imported from South America, Europe, Japan, Italy and other places. There is so much room to capture those sales in the United States. Quality is better. Carbon footprint is smaller. Sometimes prices are lower! So buy local flowers and help us farmers grow the industry! - Yesterday, @lovenfreshflowers used the word market saturation. I love Jennie in the special way you can love a person you know only from the Internet! I hadn’t met her before, and now that I have, I really think she is the bomb. But I disagree with the idea that the market is saturated because market saturation is not a state. It’s a brief moment in time. A point on a line. Quantity supplied and quantity demanded change all the time, and if at a given moment a market is saturated, it means it’s time for for innovation, new ideas and disruption. Some people will win big and others will lose. - But I don’t think the market is saturated, partly because we sell a perishable product. Partly because we sell a consumer product (or lots of us do, anyway). And partly because capturing market share from overseas growers will help the domestic flower industry build momentum and increase overall sales as costs shift from fuel and supply chain infrastructure to actual flowers. Blah, blah, blah. - Why do I think we can capture market share? Because I live in Beer City, USA.

Only 5 days left to pick your own flowers. Come any time between dawn and dusk. You’ll find snips, pitchers, buckets, and instructions on the farm stand. $1/stem, $15 to fill a pitcher, or $25 to fill a 5-gallon bucket. Dahlias priced separately and pre-cut for $2/stem. Get a pot of soup simmering for dinner, light a fall-scented candle, and put a vase of seasonal flowers on the table — your home will be feeling so cozy and lovely you’ll never want to leave. 🏡🌿 #homeagainflowers #seasonalflowers #homehappiness

We are winding down our season of flower farming and floristry, equal parts ready for a shift in gears and sad to see this year pass. I packed the calendar with so many gorgeous weddings and parties, worked with some amazing couples and friends. Much of the time, it felt a bit overwhelming but this is a new business and I am still figuring it all out. Next year’s calendar is already starting to come together. In between the end of this year and the beginning of next, I am looking forward to a winter rest. We only take weddings, events, and shoots during our growing months, starting in April with the glorious bulb crops and flowering branches (personal favorite) and concluding in late November with lovely textures, heirloom mums, and still more fantastic garden roses coming from the west coast. So what do I do in the winter? It’s a time to set the filling for the next year. Meet with new couples, dream about the garden, order supplies, organize and strategize, welcome new baby lambs into the world, travel someplace or another, park myself directly next to the wood stove. This little sabbatical has served its purpose of making me feel creatively refreshed, keeps the new ideas coming and lessens the burnout. I’m thankful for the seasons. Winter included. With heavy rain still in the forecast through tomorrow, I thought a pot of chili on the stove today would help comfort the soul. Onions, diced tomatoes (already canned and in the pantry), and peppers fresh from the garden, are just what I need to get this meal going!🌶🍅 At least this morning the water on the road has receeded a bit.

Let’s talk eggs this morning! • Did you know that the yolk color is based solely on what the hen’s diet consists of? It’s all dependent on the amount of carotenoids in the diet. Chicken feeds have all kinds of things in them. They even have added marigold extract to help enhance the color of the yolks. But this is why actually knowing your farmer is hugely important. The deep color of our yolks don’t come from extracts, it comes from the foods rich in carotenoids that we feed our hens. Bell peppers, tomatoes, plums, pumpkins, carrots and tons of kale and other fresh greens. No faking it here! But with that being said, even yellow hued egg yolks are still healthy! Just less carotenoids in the diet! • Another way to tell the freshness and health of a hens eggs is by the whites. Cloudy, thick whites that stick close to the yolk are proof of happy, healthy, hens and super fresh eggs. See how the whites form a little shelf around the yolk? That’s what you want from your eggs! • Swipe to see what a store bought egg looks like in the pan and the difference! • • • #onthefarm #inthefield #lifeonthefarm #humanelyraised #smallfarm #localfarm #supportlocal #buylocal #smallbusiness #familyfarm #organic #organicfarming #sustainable #sustainablefarming #sustainablefarm #farm #farmlife #lifeonthefarm #country #animals #animallovers #farmer #savannahga #downtownsavannah #blufftonsc #bluffton #lowcountry #southcarolina #womenwhofarm #raiseyourownfood

This Equinox has been such a literal & metaphorical harvest in my world. Honoring all that I’m harvesting that I planted months ago, even a year ago. Seeing the spaces I’ve tended carefully flourish and provide. Honoring the fruit that was possible because I stopped tending other things so I could really pay attention to what I wanted to grow. Some things didn’t grow, there are a lot of weeds, and there are some stragglin’ late bloomers in there too. Grateful for this time to take stock of it all and put new intentions into the seeds I’m planting now that’ll overwinter and be tended when the time is right. 💫 SIGH 🍁 Literally, Fella and I are harvesting as many of these muscadines as we can for preserving and freezing. We got DOZENSSS of jars of jelly made this past weekend with the help of a newly “adopted” Southern “mom.” The old fashioned way, no added pectin, and OMG I don’t really even like jelly but this jelly is so good I can’t stop. Muscadine jelly on everything for the foreseeable future. 🤤 Savoring this season... on a piece of freshly made bread. 😉

When we moved into our fixer-upper 5 years ago, I cried 😓 (ad) I had no idea how terrible our hard well water was. Five years later, my kitchen looks a little brighter, and my water is a whole lot cleaner thanks to the installation of a @HeyCulligan water filtration system. . Culligan Water provided us with water solutions for our whole home by identifying a host of water issues from hard water to the taste of our water. . Since having our system installed, we have been able to wash our fruits and veggies right in the sink. We can fill pots to boil pasta water from the faucet, and we can drink crisp, clean delicious water right from our own home without any worry at all. You don't have to live with bad water, check out the link in my bio to learn more #HeyCulligan #CulliganIC . Do you have good quality water at your house? We are smitten ❤️. Meet the newest addition to Team Cross Street, our brand new Massey Ferguson tractor. We mentioned big news, and she is just the start. Earlier this month we officially became the Farm Managers over the entire 7 acre farm at Norwell Farms @eventsnorwellfarms. This is a full circle moment for us, as we helped to start Norwell Farms in 2010. I (Nikki) was the founding Chair of the nonprofit and Cara joined the Board a few years later when she moved to Norwell. We worked tirelessly as volunteers in the early years to build the farm and nonprofit, and then we both learned to farm here. We never dreamed when we started Cross Street 4 years ago that we’d get the opportunity to take the helm. We are honored and so very excited to make this farm our own, and to continue to work with the nonprofit and the Town to make Cross Street Flower Farm, Norwell Farms and the historic Jacobs Farm a vibrant community farm and gathering place for our community. This tractor is step one ☝️to help us manage the land more efficiently. She’s a beauty tho, isn’t she? Happy Tuesday people. #flowerfarmer #communitysupportedagriculture #localgrowers #dowhatyoulove #builditfromthegroundup #fullcircle #communityfarm #womenwhofarm #masseyferguson

We had our first frost last night which damaged a large number of plants... what a testing first season this has been! As I stood looking at the fading plot this morning, I noticed this cheerful little bloom glowing in the sun. Good morning Instagram world. I thought I would introduce myself. I know it’s supposed to happen on Fridays, but I’ve never been great at doing things the “usual” way. I’m Beth, the face behind and the leader of this one woman flower farming army. I am nearing the end of my second season farming flowers on the property where I was born and raised, spending countless hours working in my family’s veggie garden as a child, swearing I would never be doing this if I had a choice 😆. A lot of times you can feel like an army Sargent of sorts, growing flowers or any crop outdoors, as you are at the whim of Mother Nature and must prepare for the next curve ball she may throw you, plan your strategy, and be able to take a hit and keep moving forward. The hours can be long and sometimes you may wonder if you are doing anything right, but when you pick and hold a gorgeous arm full of flowers you nurtured and grew from seed, it all feels so worth it. Those 5 a.m flower picking frenzies and late night, sunset fertilizing sessions are par for the course when you see the beauty of a mixed bouquet or one of a kind arrangement made with the flowers YOU grew. I didn’t always know that growing flowers was the right career for me, it was a tough path finding my way, working hard to get a degree and then spent years trying to find the right job in that field. None of the jobs I took felt right or fulfilled me in a way I longed for, and I reached a low so far down, I thought this world might be better without me in it. Luckily...I figured out it was up to me to make a change and to make myself happy and took a giant leap of faith and changed my career path, I started down a path full of plants and flowers and began running a small garden maintenance business and eventually started flower farming. I’m finally feeling like I’m doing something fulfilling to me, and it’s never felt better. Please feel free to say hello and tell me a bit about YOU . . . . #introduction #introductionpost #hereiam #flowerfarmer #mysticalgardensflowerfarm #life #aboutme #lovewhatyoudo #dowhatyoulove #flowerlover #lifepath #hello #farmher #womenwhofarm #findyourpassion #farmerflorist #flowergrower

You don’t need a lot of room to grow food. Our parsley grows in the gap between our side fence and the retaining wall. As it goes to seed I pick some off and throw the seeds back into the same area. Parsley isn’t my favourite herb, but it grows year-round, and it’s handy to have nearby to add to salads or to use in a dressing. This area is completely shaded in winter and gets blasted by the summer sun and reflected heat from the fence. Parsley never seems to mind. . . . . . . . . . #smallstepstowardssustainability #growyourownfood #growyourown #organicgardening #permaculture #gardentogut #gardening #spring #urbanorganicgardener #growfoodnotlawns #mumlife #motherhood #motherhoodunplugged #gardeningaustralia #homegrown #kitchengarden #womenwhofarm #thehappygardeninglife #epicgardening #blacktown

Good morning and hello from a crisp bright autumnal morning at Wark on Tyne in rural Northumberland. My name is Kate and my #smallindiebusiness is @northumbrianflowers growing British flowers in the heart of Northumberland. I grow flowers for florists who like to use unique and different flowers, for diy brides wanting to create their own wedding arrangements. I also offer wedding flowers service for couples, I create arrangements for holiday homes, grand houses being filled with visiting parties, photo shoots, bouquets and open studio events. I started creating my flower farm in 2011 and now have a small polytunnel and 3 greenhouses....1 just isn't enough! I am looking forward to sharing a week of my life and business with you all, I am a massive supporter of small indie businesses, working with women in business and do a lot of collaborations with photo shoots and workshops. [Aktivitas Kebun] . Happy Full Corn Moon 🌾🌝 This gorgeous ear of corn is from seed gifted to me by the amazing woman who taught my birth doula training workshop. She shared a story of waking up after a terrible wind storm, and seeing her corn patch knocked over flat on the ground. As the storm passed and the sun warmed the land, the corn slowly inched its way back to standing. Corn can do this sometimes out of sheer resiliency and support from the other stalks of corn growing in community together. The tones of this corn range from yellow/green to ocean blue, and when I hold these beautiful kernels in my hand I can’t help but think of the wisdom in that story - may we support each other through the storms and help each other rise back up again and again. 🌾

Originally from NYC, Mable has quickly set down roots on the Farmstead- here amidst the buckwheat, millet, and vetch cover crop. This plot was hand seeded earlier this summer (Fay was recruited to help incorporate the seed by running through it before a good rain) and Mable’s inspection confirmed it was ready to cut. Out came the scythe - an archaic tool with great utility for our scale! The neighbor kids looked on (not sure out of curiosity, delight, horror - or all three) while I enjoyed observing toads leap past unharmed by the relatively slow swinging blade and insects continue pollinating, even as stalks fell to the ground (check out the monarch photobomb in pic #2) - the many perks of using a human-fueled hand tool! Now the vegetation will be left to decompose in preparation of the spring, when our next high tunnel will be built on this plot. . . . #grandislevt #organic #veganic #covercrop #womenwhofarm #iamamodernfarmer

[Aktivitas Kebun] . Panen seledri! Dari 5 pot bekas, terkumpul 100-an gram seledri. Lumayan! Tiap pagi, ada tukang bakso yang minta. Huehehe! . Seledri, meskipun dipanen setiap hari, gak habis-habis. 😋😁 . 😋 . Kamu gimana? Udah nyoba nanam seledri belum? Ya, buat nasi goreng jadilah. Haha. . #sayurankita #sayuran #vegetables #pertanian #agriculture #farms #kebun #garden #urban #urbanagriculture #urbanfarming #urbangardening #womenwhofarm #thehappygardeninglife #happyfarming #petani #petaniindonesia #belajarmenanam #belajarbertani #ceritaanakmagang #ayoberkebun #ayobertani #aktivitas #seledri #panenseledri #apiumgraveolens

[Hari Tani Nasional] . Kemarin, tepatnya tanggal 24 September diperingati sebagai hari tani nasional yang ditetapkan melalui Keppres no.169 tahun 1963. Penetapan hari Tani Nasional didasarkan pada kelahiran Undang-Undnag no.5 tahun 1960 tentang Peraturan Dasar Pokok-pokok Agraria. . . Selamat memaknai hari tani nasional! . #sayurankita #sayuran #vegetables #pertanian #agriculture #farms #kebun #garden #urban #urbanagriculture #urbanfarming #urbangardening #womenwhofarm #thehappygardeninglife #happyfarming #petani #petaniindonesia #belajarmenanam #belajarbertani #ceritaanakmagang #ayoberkebun #ayobertani #aktivitas #haritaninasional #haritani #reformaagraria #agraria #konflikagraria #uupa
