This summer, Im Renting a little room at my friends house to go and art and work on commissions. “The Studio” It’s good because it gets me out of the house, and I’m more productive because I go there for the sole purpose of working. It also has a kitchen, a workout room and a pool so I feel like I’m heading off to a sick #google or #Zappos type environment! I don’t always go, sometimes I just stay at the house or sometimes I’m in living situations where work and home are all in the same place. In some ways it’s glorious to be able to just roll out of bed, not even change clothes and work on the couch while Netflix plays all day, but more often than not it’s a slippery slope to lazy town, and more Netflix , and house cleaning than art responsibilities happens. an actual job, with a boss and a dress code, and dealing with workplace drama and customers is not my ideal situation but I gotta recognize that I’m a lot more productive in those environments. Plus benefits and all that. Pros and cons. Ya hear? .
But for the struggling to be productive #freelancer, i got a tip once that actually tried and it made an impact on my loafing tendencies that you should try. Set an alarm, wake up, shower and get dressed up, do your hair and put on makeup as if you’re going to an actual workplace. Cause you are! Right? Mindset. If you get professional, you’ll be professional. So focus up! Putting on that business mask helps Sometimes. I don’t always do it, depends on the day but it certainly feels good! And inspires selfies. And even if it doesn’t work and I’m sucked back into the couch at least I look professional doing it.
