* To have and to hold *
This vow we hear so often is more than just a phrase, it is a prophetic plunge into the unknown - both in the places that are familiar and in seasons full of fear.
To have means committing to connection and to being a place of safety and for your partner - to know that she has your back when you feel misunderstood and alone. ————————————————————————
To hold means stepping into discomfort and vulnerability for your spouse regardless of the cost - to feel his arms and heart opening up to you when the fear of failure wants to rob your joy. ————————————————————————
These words change the way we see our marriage and ultimately how we view our true selves. They move us to action and away from apathy - toward belonging and not loneliness. Because when we're held close and feel safe, we're free to fully live. ————————————————————————
As you step into unknown seasons, may you be held by the one who steps with you and find peace in the one who made you. As one of my favorite song lyrics says: "Christ before me, Christ behind me, I am firmly held." ————————————————————————
