Another first for me while on Sanibel Island, was to see not one, but three Snowy Plovers! They are listed as Threatened in Florida, so this was a special treat!
The first one I saw was banded. The second sighting was two days later in a totally different location, where two hung out side by side. I wondered if they were nesting, as they sat low in the sand and shells after they finished preening. I was very careful not to stay too long or to get too close, as my long 500mm lens can attract attention to whatever I focus it on. They are so adorable, I wish I could have photographed them all day!
